The European Commission has launched a call for evidence to gather contributions for the forthcoming EU Strategy for Coastal Communities, a flagship initiative announced under the European Ocean Pact.

Open until 23 March 2026, the consultation invites citizens, organisations, regional and local authorities, and all coastal stakeholders to share their perspectives on the future of Europe’s coastal regions.

Coastal areas and communities across the EU hold significant potential for sustainable development. At the same time, they face structural challenges linked to their geographical characteristics, increasing environmental pressures, climate change impacts, and persistent socio-economic disparities.

In this context, the call for evidence represents an important opportunity to ensure that the future Strategy effectively supports coastal communities, particularly in:
• Seizing sustainable blue and green growth opportunities;
• Strengthening resilience and adaptation to climate change;
• Addressing socio-economic challenges, especially in the most vulnerable fisheries-dependent communities.

Stakeholders across the Atlantic Area are encouraged to contribute and help shape a Strategy that responds to the specific needs and strengths of coastal territories.
