The SMARTDEC project, supported by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, will be presented as a good practice at the final event of REDII Ports, funded by the Interreg North Sea Programme. Across different European regions and sea basins, both projects are committed to accelerating the implementation of new regulations in small and medium-sized ports, shipyards, vessels and shipping lines, particularly in the transition towards cleaner energy solutions and alternative fuels.
The closing event will take place at the Port of Skagen, in Denmark, on 25–26 February. It will focus on the decarbonisation of shipping and ports, highlighting both the challenges and the significant opportunities this transition represents for maritime stakeholders.
Fórum Oceano, partner of the Interreg Atlantic Area SMARTDEC project, will share its experience in supporting and accelerating innovative technologies for the Atlantic maritime transport sector. Through its work with entrepreneurs, scientists and engineers, SMARTDEC has helped promising solutions assess market potential and navigate evolving regulatory frameworks.
This hands-on support has enabled the partnership to identify critical needs and bottlenecks that the maritime transport sector must overcome to meet the ambitious emissions reduction targets set by the International Maritime Organisation and other policymakers.
Led by Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique, the SMARTDEC project is developing common strategies to equip the Atlantic Region with the tools, knowledge and collaborative structures needed to accelerate the reduction of pollution from waterborne transport.
