The 2026 REGIOSTARS competition, organised by DG REGIO, is now open for applications until 22 May 2026. This prestigious initiative highlights the most innovative and impactful EU-funded projects that drive regional development and cohesion across Europe.

This year, the projects compete in five different categories:

1. A competitive and smart Europe

Projects that promote competitiveness, innovation and economic resilience

2. Green Europe

Projects that contribute to a greener and more resilient Europe for regional development

3. A connected Europe

Projects that improve mobility and connectivity between regions

4. A Social and Inclusive Europe

Projects that promote social inclusion, gender equality and non-discrimination

5. A Europe closer to the citizens

Projects that support the Sustainable Development of local and regional strategies


Finalists will be selected by a panel of experts and invited to EURegionsWeek in Brussels, where winners will be announced during the REGIOSTARS Ceremony. Winners will also receive a dedicated promotional campaign to enhance the visibility of the projects.
