As Europe's blue economy continues to expand, so does the need for professionals equipped with the technical, digital and practical skills required to support its sustainable growth. Responding to this challenge, the UPWELLING project, co-funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, launches the UPWELLING Academy on 6 July, an innovative European training programme that combines structured learning with direct exposure to marine infrastructures, operational environments and real-world challenges.
Designed to bridge the gap between education and professional practice, the Academy supports the development of skills that are increasingly demanded across the blue economy, helping learners gain both knowledge and practical experience.
The Academy is organised into two complementary levels that allow participants to build their knowledge progressively.
Level 1 – Transversal Modules
The first level provides a common foundation through an Introduction to the Blue Economy, covering topics such as Innovation and knowledge transfer, and Marine research infrastructures. These modules establish the cross-cutting knowledge needed to better understand the blue economy ecosystem before progressing to specialised topics.
Level 2 – Core Thematic Modules
Participants can then choose one or several thematic learning pathways according to their interests: Aquaculture & Fisheries, Blue Tech & Ocean Observation, Blue Renewable Energies, Biodiversity & Resilient Coast. Each Level 2 module combines technical content with practical case studies, direct interaction with marine infrastructures and organisations across the Atlantic Area.
