The UPWELLING project, led by the Spanish association Innovalia and supported by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, invited companies, universities, organisations and individuals to submit challenges related to the blue economy to be presented under the umbrella of the Ocean Hackathon® initiative. Applications are running until the 30th of May. The winners of the local editions will participate in the Grand Finale, in Brest, will have the chance to join a transnational community.
The challenge should be an idea or concept linked with the ocean and seas, their sustainable development and/or their preservation. It should be based on the use of data and require the development of a prototype during the event. Based on the transnational dimension of the UPWELLING project, candidates will be selected to present their ideas at the following venues, in a 48-hour non-stop event, from 16 to 18 October:
• Islas Canarias (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), promoted by PLOCAN and Asociación Innovalia
• Southern Ireland (Cork), promoted by Cork County Council
• Bretagne (Brest), promoted by Technopôle Brest Irioise
• Algarve (Olhão), promoted by IPMA
The finalists selected to these local hackathons will receive contributions from coaches during the weekend. It will be possible to benefit from their technical, scientific and project expertise.
