According to the rules of Procedure of the 2021-2027 Interreg Atlantic Area Monitoring Committee, Portugal is the next Member State appointed to chair the body. The Monitoring Committee is the main decision-making body of the Interreg Atlantic Area and it is composed of representatives of the four Member States and regions, authorities of the Programme, representatives of other administrations and organised civil society as advisory members.

The Chair shall convene the Monitoring Committee at least once a year or at the written request of one or more of its members. In 2026 this task is committed to the Agency for Development and Cohesion, IP (AD&C), the Portuguese institution representing Portugal in the body.

AD&C is Portugal's primary public body for implementing the European Cohesion Policy, ensuring funds are used effectively for balanced national and regional growth. It also manages the European Structural and Investment Funds, acting as the certifying and paying authority for operational programs.
