The Interreg Atlantic Area programme has surpassed its goals, reaching 160% of its financial target and fully meeting the n+3 rule by October 2025. The milestone was announced by António Cunha, President of CCDR Norte and Managing Authority of the programme, during the Atlantic Days in Galway, under the Interreg Atlantic Area Annual Event.

Calling it a “remarkable achievement,” António Cunha credited the success to the strong commitment of the programme’s beneficiaries. He emphasised that the outstanding results, along with those from other Interreg initiatives, reinforce the importance of these programmes as key instruments of European policy in the next Multiannual Financial Framework. The European Commission recently confirmed €10.2 billion in funding for Interreg programmes for the 2028–2034 cycle.

The Galway event also explored how to capitalise on results and boost visibility for funded projects — driving new investment and sustainable development across the Atlantic Region. Discussions highlighted crucial themes such as environmental protection, youth entrepreneurship, and technology transfer to industry.
