João Marrana has been appointed Executive Manager of the Managing Authority of the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, managed by CCDR NORTE and responsible for the implementation of this European transnational cooperation programme.
He was welcomed on Monday, 27 July, at CCDR NORTE's headquarters by its President, Álvaro Santos, Chair of Interreg Atlantic Area, who highlighted the strategic importance of the role in strengthening European territorial cooperation and ensuring the continued successful implementation of the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme.
In his new position, João Marrana will serve as the institutional representative of the Managing Authority and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable European Union and national legislation, as well as overseeing the programme's management, monitoring, follow-up and evaluation.
In 2026, João Marrana was awarded the City of Coimbra Gold Medal for his work as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Metro Mondego. His professional career also includes serving as a member of the Steering Committee of the Northern Regional Operational Programme between 2012 and 2015, as well as holding the position of Administrative Adviser at Metro do Porto.
