The AGEO – Atlantic Geohazard Risk Management projectsupported by Interreg Atlantic Area , won the REGIOSTARS Award 2025 in the category “A Green Europe” and was also selected by the Public Choice. This award, launched by the European Commission, highlights investments made using European funds.

AGEO brings together scientists, local communities and policy makers in an app that allows users to issue alerts, receive information about events and educational content on geological risks in the Atlantic Region, protecting European citizens from risk scenarios such as landslides, seismic activity, floods and coastal erosion. The project also included the creation of five pilot observatories for citizens, enabling local communities to participate in this early warning system.

“This recognition marks the project’s outstanding contribution to the sustainable development of the Atlantic Region. It reflects the importance of transnational cooperation as one of the main instruments that will keep European regions united, also in response to natural phenomena in civil protection”, says António Cunha, President of CCDR Norte and Chair of the Managing Authority of Interreg Atlantic Area.

Coordinated by Instituto Superior Técnico in Portugal, AGEO involves 13 partners from Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
