The AGEO – Atlantic Geohazard Risk Management project, supported by Interreg Atlantic Area 2014-2020, is the first project supported by our programme to reach the finalist stage of REGIOSTARS award. This award, launched by the European Commission, highlights investments made using European funds.

Out of a record 266 applications, AGEO has been chosen as one of the 25 finalists in the category “A Green Europe.” This category features projects dedicated to promoting a green transition as a means of advancing regional development.

Coordinated by Instituto Superior Técnico in Portugal, AGEO involves 13 partners from Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. The project has developed innovative tools to enhance preparedness for geohazards and risks in the Atlantic regions. These tools include Citizens Observatories, public engagement initiatives, and European data infrastructures aimed at addressing coastal and geological risks. Five pilot observatories have been established across various Atlantic regions, demonstrating the value of civic participation in improving risk governance.

The project will be presented during the European Week of Regions and Cities on October 14th in a final round presentation. This session will be open to all registered participants and will follow the ‘Pecha Kucha’ format, which consists of 20 images with 20 seconds of narration per image to tell a story.

The winners of the REGIOSTARS award will be announced the following day. Public voting for the Public Choice Award will begin on September 2nd via the REGIOSTARS website, giving the public a chance to vote for their favourite project.
