The Atlantic Sunset project, led by Euroregional Studies Centre Foundation (FCEER) and supported by Interreg Atlantic Area, unveils on 18 November, at 16:30, its first plaque of the last “Atlantic Sunset” in Portugal, at the Montedor hill, close to the Petisco Mill, in Carreço, Viana do Castelo. The next step will be to open other plaques at strategic locations in the Atlantic Coast of Portugal, Spain, France, and Ireland.
The opening ceremony is promoted by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities – University of Porto, represented by members of the Geography Department and the CEGOT research unit. The event will be attended by António Cunha, President of the Norte Portugal Regional Coordination and Development Commission and Managing Authority of the Interreg Atlantic Area programme, and Luís Borges, Mayor of Viana do Castelo.
The Montedor hill overlooks the ocean and is the place in Portugal where we are able to appreciate the latest sunset during Spring and Summer. Due to its scenic characteristics in the proximity to the Atlantic Santiago path, this place is also very interesting for the spatial concentration of a great diversity of relevant geological, archaeological and architectural elements.
At the ceremony, a table with the sunset disk and a picture with the identification of the most important elements of the place will be inaugurated. It will be the second of several "sunset tables" of a project that unites the western coast of Portugal, Spain, France and Ireland, whose QR code will allow to:
