The Atlantic Sunset project, led by Euroregional Studies Centre Foundation (FCEER) and supported by Interreg Atlantic Area, unveiled its first plaques of the last “Atlantic Sunset” certified locations in Costa da Morte, namely in Muxía and Finisterre (Galicia). The European network will include other spots in Portugal, France and Ireland.
Atlantic Sunset’s mission is to highlight coastal or elevated locations where visitors can witness the last sunsets of the continent or of each participating country, creating cultural, touristic and educational routes among partner regions. Each site forming part of the network will feature an information plaque, which not only describes the location’s characteristics but also includes a QR code. By scanning it, visitors can access:
• Further information about the specific site.
• Details about the other Atlantic Sunset Network points (encouraging travel between destinations).
• Insights into the project and its philosophy of cooperation and sustainability.
The unveiling of the first plaques marked the Interreg Cooperation Day 2025 and reinforces the symbolic nature of the project: it not only celebrates European cooperation but also physically installs a tangible symbol of the union between territories, culture and nature.
