Summary
iSURFATLANTIC will establish the first Sustainable and Inclusive Transnational Surf Tourism Route connecting Portugal (Oeste), Spain (Cantabria), France (Gironde), and Ireland (Northwest). By addressing shared challenges, such as environmental pressures, seasonal instability, and unequal accessibility, the project aims to position the Atlantic Region as a leading destination for sustainable and universally accessible surf tourism.
Through the installation of eco‑friendly equipment, the development of digital accessibility tools, the promotion of adaptive surfing, and the rollout of targeted capacity‑building programmes, iSURFATLANTIC will strengthen the long-term sustainability and inclusiveness of surf tourism. These actions will contribute directly to the Blueprint for Sustainable and Inclusive Surf Tourism, consolidating best practices, policy recommendations, and governance models that can be replicated across the Atlantic Region.
By harmonising sustainability and accessibility standards, avoiding fragmented policy approaches, and improving the overall visitor experience, transnational cooperation will ensure a unified, resilient, and future‑proof surf tourism ecosystem that benefits all coastal stakeholders.
