The lead partner of the SED’UP project, Université Bretagne Occidentale, has successfully carried out the first sediment sampling campaign in Brittany, the French side of the project, supported by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme. This initial campaign covered two strategic sites:
- Port of Morlaix: 550 kg of sediment collected with the support of Morlaix Communauté, one of the project’s designated pilot sites
- Port of Lanildut: 550 kg of sediment collected from this small port located near Brest
This milestone marks the beginning of a wider sampling effort across the four participating countries of the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme: France, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain. Sediments from multiple locations will be gathered and analysed to support the development of innovative and sustainable valorisation solutions. All collected samples will undergo a comprehensive suite of laboratory analyses, including geotechnical and chemical characterisation, formulation testing, and ecotoxicological assessments.
At the same time, partners are working on establishing technical, regulatory and operational preconditions for the implementation of sediment reuse strategies at the project’s pilot sites. Besides the Port of Morlaix, in France, the Port of Cork will also be tested for a pilot.
