On 9 July 2025, the Port of Avilés, in Asturias (Spain), will host the Open Day of the HY4RES project, a partnership supported by the Interreg Atlantic Area programme that explores how hybrid renewable energy systems can make the port sector more sustainable. Participants will explore a modular energy facility that combines solar, wind, and hydropower technologies designed to meet small-scale energy needs within the port environment.
The event will begin with local and port authorities sharing their views on the importance of renewable energy in creating more sustainable and resilient port operations. Researchers from Trinity College Dublin and the University of Oviedo will present the HY4RES project and its pilot site in Avilés, showing how hybrid systems can help ports reduce emissions and improve efficiency.
A networking workshop will follow, where experts and participants will discuss ways to make the port sector more sustainable.
By opening its pilot site to the public, HY4RES shows how cooperation, research, and smart technology can work together to support Europe’s clean energy goals and build more sustainable and resilient port infrastructures.
