The European Commission, Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO), launched a new call for proposals to support setting up 15 Cross-Border Coordination Points (CBCP), in the framework of BRIDGEforEU, a new instrument “to facilitate identifying and resolving cross-border obstacles”. The main objective of the call is to facilitate MS in the process of setting up said points by providing financial support.

According to the Regulation, the new CBCP will provide solutions to legal and administrative obstacles in a cross-border context and in land or maritime border regions of neighbouring Member States.

The European Commission estimates that around 150 million Europeans are living close to a border, in regions with a huge potential for economic growth and integration, but whose development and interactions are hindered by legal and administrative discrepancies. A study funded by the Commission concludes that removing 20% of current obstacles would boost GDP by 2% in cross-border regions and create over one million jobs.
