The European Atlantic Sunset project, led by the Spanish partner CEER Foundation and supported by the Interreg Atlantic Area programme, marks the Interreg Cooperation Day 2025 presenting the unique characteristics of the sunsets in the Atlantic regions and demonstrating how sunsets can capitalized on the value of the West Coast.

The public session starts in Cabo Touriñán, in Muxía, on the 19th of September, at 18:00, with the opening of the first informative sign of the project referring to the last sunset of mainland Europe. Then, at 19:30, the Atlantic Sunset project is introduced in the symbolic Plaza Stephen Hawking, in Finisterre, close to one of the westernmost points on continental Europe and a common final destination of pilgrims from the St James Way. It intends to show what European cooperation looks like in everyday life and what happens when European regions work together.

Researchers and experts from Ireland to the Canary Islands are identifying some of the best sunset Atlantic spots, in close collaboration with local communities, tourism and other development agents, and working on a tourist plan to be marketed to potential visitors. In the first public session of the event, the partners will present the first spots of this network and how they will be projected in the coming months.

In addition, there are other strategic spots that will be developed as part of the Atlantic Sunset project, such as other extreme locations and symbolic places in Portugal, France and Ireland.

Interreg Cooperation Day at Kulmino

On 19 September, the University of Angers, partner of the Atlantic Sunset project, will also join citizens in celebrating Interreg Cooperation Day at Kulmino, the highest point in Notre-Dame-de-Monts, in the Pays de la Loire region (France). The event invites participants to discover the unique features of sunsets in the Atlantic Region, with a special focus on the spectacular views from Kulmino. This initiative is organised in close cooperation with the Communauté de Communes Océan Marais de Monts.

More than just a vantage point, Kulmino is both a working water tower and a panoramic viewpoint over the surrounding landscape. The combination of utility and natural beauty makes it a remarkable site to highlight the spirit of cooperation and celebrate Interreg programmes.
