The AWAVES project, led by Deputación Provincial de Pontevedra and supported by the Interreg Atlantic Area programme, is creating innovative sensory routes that connect coastal communities with their rich maritime heritage. Bringing together partners with expertise in Atlantic tourism and digital technologies, the project aims to reinvigorate interest among young people and ensure the preservation of cultural legacies that are at risk of fading.
Through augmented reality, QR codes, and other digital tools, visitors will be able to access historical recreations and immersive sensory experiences based in an interactive platform developed specifically for the project. These experiences are designed to make heritage engaging, accessible, and interactive for all generations.
Following the development of these immersive experiences, AWAVES will engage directly with coastal communities through cultural nodes located in ports, guilds, and fish markets, bringing history to life in the very heart of maritime life.
