The Hub4Food project, led by Asociación Cluster Alimentario de Galicia and supported by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, engaged more than 250 participants through its Citizen Science Actions – a series of interactive activities designed to bring sustainable food innovation closer to local communities across the Atlantic Area. Beyond raising awareness, these activities encouraged participants to rethink the relationship between food, health and the marine environment while inspiring future generations.

The Citizen Science Actions included nine events across Spain, Portugal, Ireland and France, bringing together students – from primary school pupils to university students – consumers, researchers and food professionals. Through workshops, demonstrations and interactive experiences, participants explored how marine resources can contribute to healthier diets, more resilient food systems and new opportunities within the blue economy.

In Spain, EIT Food introduced young people to careers in marine science and sustainable food innovation, while CLUSAGA and ANFACO-CECOPESCA organised an educational workshop in Galicia exploring the seafood value chain through hands-on activities and a boat trip around the Vigo Estuary.

In Ireland, Teagasc and the Bia Innovator Campus hosted Gut-Ed: Seaweed, Science and Health, bringing together researchers, entrepreneurs and consumers to explore the nutritional benefits and commercial potential of seaweed.

In Portugal, MARE – Polytechnic University of Leiria introduced students to the applications of microalgae in food, while CATAA and InovCluster organised showcooking sessions demonstrating innovative ways to combine regional ingredients with seaweed.

In France, PRAXENS engaged visitors during the Fête de la Science, while Valorial, PRAXENS and Lempa showcased algae-based innovations at the Salon de l'Algue. Valorial also organised workshops for primary school pupils, introducing sustainability concepts through tasting sessions and interactive games.
