The AtlanticOnBike - EuroVelo 1 project, led by the Conseil Départemental des Pyrénées-Atlantiques and co-funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, has been selected as one of five finalists (from 274 applications) under the category "A Connected Europe". This marks the second consecutive year an Interreg Atlantic Area project has reached the REGIOSTARS finals, following the success of AGEO project in 2025.

Why this project matters
Recognised as a flagship initiative for sustainable mobility and green tourism, the project has helped develop and promote EuroVelo 1 – the Atlantic Coast Route, one of Europe's longest and most spectacular cycling routes. Stretching from the North Cape in Norway to the Algarve in Portugal, the route offers a unique cycling experience while encouraging environmentally friendly travel across the Atlantic regions.
By improving infrastructure, strengthening cooperation and promoting cycling tourism, AtlanticOnBike – EuroVelo 1 connects rural, coastal and urban areas through a continuous and safe cycling corridor. The project contributes to low-carbon mobility, sustainable tourism and greater territorial cohesion by linking regions across Europe through a shared active mobility network.
