The Galician association for metal industries, ASIME, hosted in Vigo the kick-off event of the AOFFTECH project, supported by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme. The initiative aims to accelerate decarbonization, strengthen European energy independence, and promote a genuine energy transition through strong public–private collaboration across the Atlantic Region.

With the participation of eleven organisations from five countries, bringing together partners from the Atlantic façade of Spain, Portugal and France, as well as an associated partner from Norway, the consortium has already begun working on the project’s expected outcomes. These include disseminating technological developments from offshore experimental platforms, developing a cross-border Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) approach for floating offshore wind deployment, creating a shared strategy for the Atlantic Region, and facilitating connections with the network of Blue Academies to strengthen skills and training for the emerging offshore renewable energy sector.

The meeting concluded with a technical visit to the Port of Vigo, one of the most important maritime and industrial hubs on the Atlantic coast. The port plays a strategic role in the development of offshore renewable energy thanks to its strong shipbuilding tradition, advanced metalworking industry, and established maritime logistics ecosystem. The visit allowed participants to better understand the port’s infrastructure and industrial capabilities, as well as its potential role in supporting the deployment of floating offshore wind technologies and strengthening regional value chains for the energy transition.
