The President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly, officially opened the 1st International Creative Jam in Killybegs, an event promoted under the ATLIC project to highlight the importance of youth-led innovation in sustainable economic development and the crucial role young people play in shaping the future of the Atlantic Blue Economy.
Supported by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, the event brought together young entrepreneurs from Atlantic regions across Ireland, France, Spain, and Portugal to collaborate, exchange ideas, and develop solutions for the future of our ocean economy.
At the opening ceremony, the Executive Manager of the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, Sandra Silva, underlined the great opportunity to meet Her Excellency President Catherine Connolly within an Atlantic project. She also mentioned the contribution of the European Commission with the recent launch of the first Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness, announced on 5 March 2026.
This strategy introduces an Intergenerational Contract, which emphasises long-term thinking, brings youth perspectives to the fore, and proposes practical instruments, such as an Intergenerational Fairness Index, multilingual policymaking, and participatory tools, to broaden youth engagement.
Both the President of Ireland and the Executive Manager of the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme also emphasised the importance of ensuring that young people have the opportunity to choose whether to remain in the low-density regions they call home, empowering them to stay in their places of origin.
A powerful start to an event dedicated to creativity, collaboration, and the next generation of Atlantic innovators.
