About the Atlantic Arc Commission

The Atlantic Arc Commission (AAC) is one of six Geographical Commissions within the CPMR. Founded in 1989 in Portugal, the AAC unites regions from Ireland, the UK, France, Spain, Portugal, and Canada, encompassing a territory from Andalucía to Québec and representing over 60 million people.

The AAC promotes strategic cooperation on shared Atlantic challenges such as maritime transport, the blue economy, energy transition, climate change, and accessibility. It plays a vital role in supporting regional interests at the European level, through its engagement in shaping EU policies and programmes.

Within the CPMR framework, the Atlantic Arc Commission serves a pivotal role in translating European priorities into regional action. The CPMR has long championed the Atlantic agenda at EU level, significantly contributing to the launch of the European Integrated Maritime Policy (IMP) in 2007 and advocating for the “blue growth” strategy across sea basins.
