The Atlantic Area Community of Practice is growing |

The GRAAL project, led by the French institution Cerema and supported by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, has launched the Atlantic Area Community of Practice ( AA CoP), a platform fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange and policy dialogue across the Atlantic Area. The community supports the uptake of project results and continues to grow, with applications now open to policymakers, researchers, industry representatives and civil society organisations aligned with its thematic areas and priorities. SMACC+ project hosted an EU Green Week partner event |
|
The SMACC+ project, led by Vigo University and funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme, hosted an EU Green Week 2026 partner event exploring the potential of microalgae for Europe’s blue economy. Researchers and industry experts discussed scientific advances, environmental benefits, and applications in health, cosmetics, and nutraceuticals. The event also highlighted challenges in scaling production and emphasised the need for stronger collaboration to accelerate a sustainable blue bioeconomy. |

EC highlights ARMA Network’s role in shaping the Atlantic Macro-Region |
|
During the Portuguese Presidency of the Interreg Atlantic Area Monitoring Committee, European Commission Deputy Director-General Hugo Sobral highlighted the importance of involving all Atlantic regions in shaping the future Atlantic Macro-Regional Strategy. He emphasised the role of European funding programmes and stakeholder engagement across the Atlantic Region, whilst acknowledging that the model of the ARMA Network, coordinated by the Interreg Atlantic Area, based at CCDR Norte, should serve as an inspiration for the Macroregion. Consultations on governance and investment priorities are currently underway among Portugal, Spain, France and Ireland. |

Towards an Atlantic Maritime and Macro-regional Strategy |
|
The EU Macro-regional and Sea Basin Strategies Days 2026 will take place on 8–9 July in Brussels, bringing together the eight EU Macro-regional and Sea Basin Strategies. Organised by DG REGIO and DG MARE, the event will explore evolving EU priorities, post-2027 programming, and the future Multiannual Financial Framework. Discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation, governance, visibility, funding integration, and joint action to support resilient, competitive, and sustainable territorial development. The agenda includes a high-level session about the Atlantic Maritime and Macro-regional Strategy. |

European Week of Regions and Cities 2026 Edition |
|
The 24th European Week of Regions and Cities will take place in Brussels from 12–14 October 2026 under the motto “Strong regions, strong Europe”. The event will highlight the role of Cohesion Policy in supporting regional development, innovation, and quality public services. Bringing together stakeholders from across Europe, it will provide a platform to exchange experiences, build partnerships, and discuss place-based solutions to address shared and regional challenges. The initiative will host the 2026 REGIOSTARS Awards ceremony on the 14th of October. |
