WARM
WATERWAYS & RISK MANAGEMENT 2016-05-23 10:37:35
WARM focuses on the inland waterways including rivers, canals, and lakes.
The main objective is to improve the current risk management strategies of the different inland waterway statutory authorities, to address the risks prevalent to waterways in the Atlantic Region in the 21st century.

Through WARM we plan to;

1. Assess and compare existing monitoring / risk management plans strategies
2. Assess methods of monitoring water flows, climatic and geological changes, many of which will be occurring but difficult to detect without specialist equipment and more sophisticated processes.
3. Review and evaluate current risk management / asset management procedures that attempt to mitigate against degradation of structures
4. Development, test and trial of new software that can improve monitoring techniques that deliver early warnings about changes in conditions of waterways and adjacent assets.

By doing these pieces of work we will deliver changes that will address the inherent difficulties faced - including effects of climate change and the need to prepare for extreme weather conditions. These new approaches will be future-proofed in order to react effectively to the changing natural conditions experienced by the Atlantic Area.

The project will look to find better ways to mitigate against these risks, both naturally and through technology, and protect assets – and develop joint solutions that can be applied across the Atlantic Area.
